TMA1431 Creative Studio: Micro Project- Sport 2

To carry on with the progression of my development I have moved on to sport 2 Golf. Joesph Tuff a regular golf player has kindly agreed to have his photo taken for this project and to give any information needed. For this micro project a similar approach was taken in regards to using the outdoors as a studio. Helping to again develop my camera and lighting skills outdoors, as well as help me to really engage with different compositions and framing of my images. However I also wanted to experiment with video for this series of images, as I am now considering using a small advertisement video to accompany the imagery. Video is something I am not familiar with so to start off this process, I have began by using just my iPhone to film. (video linked below).

The choice of sound is also a factor i didn’t think to consider before creating, which is something i will now plan pre filming to make sure i am capturing the correct angels and footage. My original instinct for sound was to go with the sound of golf balls being hit however once I added the sound over the video it just didn’t seem correct. I then proceeded to try using a song but with the video only being a 12 second clip that didn’t fit well either. After searching through sounds I then came across the clapping audio, Although the sound is relatively quite unsettling and annoying, I actually believe it fits very well with the theme of sport. I also thought back to a previous lecture with Richard Holman, who proposed that sometimes the wrong idea, is the right idea. This resonated with me as although the sound is unsettling, it is also unforgettable much like an advertisement should be and therefor would be a good advertisement technique to consider.

Due to taking the footage on an iPhone, Black borders have appeared around the frame and the quality of the video is not at its best. However, this is a learning curve for me and I know for next time to 100% use a film camera or large format camera to take the footage.

As for the imagery I am very happy with the way they turned out and Have used this micro project to also consider taking images of the surroundings rather than just of the model. This way I can gather as much information possibly from my experience with the participant to evolve my end projects direction.
